The Daily Bean – 08Jan
Day 2 of AJ2025 was filled with activities for participants. Our first day of offsite activites kicked off with visits to the Seaside, The Zoo and Maryborough city tours. We had a visit from the Governor of Queensland, the Camp Chief, interviews on ABC radio and more entertainment in the Main Arena.
Your Seaside
Scouts and Venturer Scouts who visited the seaside enjoyed all sorts of beach activities. They swam in the waters of Hervey Bay, and tried snorkelling to see what aquatic wildlife was around. They participated in challenges, beach games and water games. Some of them tried stand-up paddle boarding along the foreshore. Others built a raft and sailed around the local waters. And then there were the Scouts who just wanted to enjoy the sunshine and the sand.
A reminder for everyone who goes to the Seaside activity … remember to slip, slop, slap, seek and slide.

Expert level badge collecting
Teo from Kingsford Smith Scout Group is part of FC033 and has quickly proven himself to be sitting at ‘expert level’ when it comes to badge collecting.
Within 12 hours of arriving at Jamboree, Teo had collected 60% of all available Australian Contingent badges. And by now, Teo probably has all of them. Champion!
Lookout in tomorrow’s edition of The Daily Bean for the link to the lottery form so you can go into the draw to purchase one of a limited set of NSW badges.
Good morning from C029
We visited Unit C029 this morning to have a quick chat with Scouts from 1st Gunning, 2nd Queanbeyan, 1st Warilla, 1st Bungendore, 1st Jerrabomberra and 1st Albion Park. Were they awake? You betcha! And they were well on the way to starting Day 3 at AJ.
Some Scouts are staying on site today. Some are going to Australia Zoo. Others are touring Maryborough. The Leaders, as always, are making sure everyone is fed and clean, wearing a hat and covered in sunscreen, and ready for the day. Thanks, team!
Overnight the ‘snack fairy’ visited and provided enough snacks for the day. They might be needed, especially for the Scouts who went to Challenge Valley yesterday. Just a bit of mud over there. Not much. We’re sure it will wash off. Eventually.
ABC Radio Newcastle interview with Emily
Emily from Jamboree Unit T015 took part in an interview yesterday with Paul Culliver from ABC Radio Newcastle. Chosen because she is a Newcastle local. When asked by ABC whether she’d recommend other young people join Scouts, Emily said “absolutely!”
When asked what had happened so far at Jamboree, Emily said “We’ve set up tents, then had Opening Ceremony, which was insane! There were all sorts of crazy cool performances and speeches and it was amazing with fireworks.”
Alex Morson, Deputy Contingent Leader told the announcer that Jamboree is the biggest thing on the Scouting calendar, and we get Scouts from around Australia and the world doing fun and adventurous things.
The announcer asked Emily about what she’s looking forward to at Jamboree. She responded with “Meeting really interesting people from different countries is cool. I’m also looking forward to abseiling and zip-lining.”
Thanks, Emily, for being a great ambassador for Scouts.
AJ2025 horoscopes
Aries (21/03-20/04) – You’ll develop an unhealthy obsession with badge swapping. Do not be concerned because everyone at Jamboree will develop the same obsession. The trick is to save some of your good swap badges until you track down the harder-to-find badges. Don’t forget to stay hydrated during the day!
Taurus (21/04-21/05) – You’ll meet a Scout from overseas and start thinking about how to save enough money to go to the World Scout Jamboree in Poland in 2027. Make sure you swap contact details before the end of AJ2025. Don’t forget to thank your Unit Leaders for being awesome!
Gemini (22/05-21/06) – You see what happens if you have a birthday during Jamboree and you consider changing your date of birth to 10th or 12th or 14th January. Instead, you may just spend your time at Jamboree looking for your ‘twin’ who shares your real date of birth. Don’t forget to wear sunscreen every day!
Good news on the weather front. The Bureau of Meteorology (BOM) tells us that you can look forward to:
- Wednesday 8 January – 30°c, no rain
- Thursday 9 January – 30°c, shower or two
- Friday 10 January – 29°c, shower or two
Ready to Dance
Exciting news: the Smashing Bumpkins are the headline act on Wednesday night. Put on your dancing boots and head down with 100 of your mates to the Main Arena, ready for a good time.
Knock-knock… here’s your birthday bag
Having your birthday at Jamboree doesn’t mean you’re going to miss out. Some of our Contingent members made a special delivery today to deliver birthday bags to those celebrating.
If your birthday is coming up between now and 16 January, you’re in for a nice surprise.
