The Daily Bean – 09Jan

Your Challenge was the name of the game for this Patrol

Anyone know who these Scouts are? No? Neither do we. We know which Scouts went into the mud but we have no idea if these are the same six.

Nevertheless, they seemed happy to be coated head to toe and appeared to be excited about the chance to wash their clothes. A new skill for life? Well done!

    Badge collectors from T015

Patrick, Jono, Shiku and Holly may all come from Unit T015 but they don’t all come from New South Wales. Holly has joined the Unit as one of the 200+ New Zealand Scouts attending AJ2025.

“Badge collecting is so fun” these Scouts all agree but they have to move fast to chase down as many badges and badge trading opportunities as they can without breaking curfew.

“The journey begins with a single step,” said Jono. We assume he is talking about badge swapping as well as life.

Speaking about life, Holly went to New Zealand Jamboree and met some Australian Scouts who were really nice and, as coming to an Australian Jamboree was a once in a lifetime opportunity, she quickly signed up to join us in Queensland.

This Patrol is looking forward to Australia Zoo on the last day of Jamboree, before they have to pack up the next day. Shiku said, “I accidently pulled an all-nighter on the way up to Maryborough so the first day seemed so long.” Let’s hope she gets some sleep on the way home.

    G’day to C067

A post-breakfast visit to C067 this morning was a delight. This Unit is made up of Scouts and Leaders from 1st Turramurra, 2nd Turramurra and 2nd Gordon Scout Groups.

We spoke to the Leaders on site today – Fiona Macdonald (JSL), Marcus Saint (H&W) and Ian-Ross Macdonald (Activities) who said “The Scouts in the Unit are a good bunch. They’re all getting to know each other and they all bring something special to the table.”

The Unit are planning a game of street cricket so look out Victorian, Queensland and South Australian Scouts who are the immediate neighbours. They’re about to be annihilated in street cricket.

The folks at home should be happy at the kitchen skills already perfected by the Scouts – washing up and stacking dishes, cleaning the hotplate on the BBQ, wiping tables. Skills for life, indeed!

      Mad Hatters Café is open

Find your way to the Mad Hatters Café at NSW HQ to enjoy a hot or cold beverage and something delicious. The best café on the Jamboree site – yes, it is the best! – you can relax with your mates, out of the sun, in front of the fan, from 5am every day and through until the end of the day (unless there is a function at NSW HQ).

        Parking options at NSW HQ

Q – How does the NSW Contingent team get around the Jamboree site?

A – In the ute. By golf buggy. Or sometimes it’s easier to fly.

NSW badge set lottery now open

NSW Contingent has 100 limited edition badge sets available for purchase. If you’d like to purchase the full set of NSW badges, scan the QR code and complete the form to register, by Sunday 12 January.

The badge set includes: 61 NSW Unit badges, a NSW Contingent badge, the NSW Service Leader badge, the Venturer Service Leader badge, NSW HQ, I survived badge, and 7 Contingent Director badges.

Don’t miss the deadline to enter the lottery!

Wisdom from “the oldest Rover Scout in Australia”

Joe Attard is known across NSW, around Australia, and around the world for his knowledge of the history and heritage of Scouting and of its people.

We spoke with Joe earlier this week and he shared two great quotes with us. Firstly, Joe lives by the motto “Australia is my home and the world is my country” and by a belief that “you have your whole life to grow old so why rush it”.

          AJ2025 horoscopes

Libra (23/09-23/10) – After a week at Jamboree you realise that ‘hair products’ are over-rated and you may never use them again. This is a good decision because now you can afford to go to every Scout event for the rest of 2025. But don’t make the same decision about deodorant!

Scorpio (24/10-21/11) – You used to think that your Leaders were funny but after a week of knock-knock jokes, you just can’t take it any more. You are afraid to ask them to stop in case they increase the number of jokes they tell. Don’t get drawn into their evil web of bad jokes!

Sagittarius (22/11-21/12) – You keep seeing the Jamboree police and emergency services personnel cruising around the site on golf buggies. You think you want to join the Police Force so you can go to Jamborees for the rest of your life. And so you can drive a golf buggy. Don’t forget to find out more about your future new career choice!

          Three day weather forecast

The Bureau of Meteorology (BOM) tells us that you can expect the following:

Thursday 9 January – 29 degrees, shower or two

Friday 10 January – 29 degrees, shower or two

          Saturday 11 – 28 degrees, showers
